This season, a much-maligned Rangers player is outperforming a £30 million Celtic star.
This season in the Scottish Premiership, Rangers’ Cyriel Dessers is outperforming Kyogo Furuhashi of Celtic, a highly anticipated competitor.
28-year-old Cyriel Dessers, an Ibrox summer signing, has received a lot of flak this season, but since Philippe Clement took over as manager, the hitman has improved in Glasgow.
With his second double of the season in the midweek victory against Ross County, Dessers now has 14 goals this season, including 10 in the Scottish Premiership. It is likely that the striker might have scored at least four.
In contrast, Kyogo Furuhashi, a striker for Celtic, has scored eight goals in the Scottish Premier League this season. His most recent league goal came in the Old Firm match in December.
Cyriel Dessers’s return to the Rangers
Early in Cyriel Dessers’ Rangers career, he was heavily criticized despite being signed for a reputed £4.5 million from Cremonese.
The Nigerian international, who was born in Belgium, was signed by the Gers as their new number nine after they released Alfredo Morelos.
The forward appeared to be a disaster under Michael Beale, but credit to Cyriel—the former Feyenoord striker has turned things around, and the Rangers faithful are now chanting his name.
It’s difficult to remember a Rangers career taking such a sharp turn in such a short amount of time, and the team’s goals speak for themselves as the Ibrox team gets closer to winning the championship.
Ibrox forward surpasses Kyogo Furuhashi in points
Regarding the comparisons to Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi, the fact that Cyriel Dessers has now surpassed the Parkhead front in the Premiership scoring rankings is a prime example of his team’s comeback.
Notably, neither player is the division’s top scorer; instead, Lawrence Shankland (17) and Bojan Miovski (13) have scored more than either player.
Although many have dismissed Cyriel Dessers as a failure, many believe Kyogo Furuhashi to be the best forward in the division.
And there’s a valid cause for it.
The Celtic striker, who scored seven goals against Rangers last year, for example, is a huge game player and goal scorer. For this reason, we keep hearing that the Parkhead team has an offensive advantage over us.
We believe Cyriel Dessers won’t have the kind of £30 million price tags associated with Kyogo Furuhashi unless he begins to be an Old Firm matchwinner.
However, Dessers’ Old Firm credentials will soon be put to the test as he is finally settling in Glasgow.
