Ex-Everton Scout makes Jordan Pickford and Jack Butland prediction amid Rangers development.
Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford may be challenged for England’s number one post by Rangers star Jack Butland.
That is according to former Goodison Park scout Bryan King, who feels Pickford frequently makes simple saves appear difficult.
The verdict follows Butland’s recent admission that he met with Gareth Southgate and the England group when they
visited Scotland last year [talkSPORT, 5 February].
King told Goodison News that Butland appears to have regained his confidence. I can see him pushing Pickford in
England because he’s a big lad and has had a horrible run of injuries.
“Pickford appears to have improved his game a little bit, but the only problem with him is that he can’t keep out of
trouble; he’s always shouting at people. Worry about doing your job. His kicking is good, but he makes simple saves seem difficult.”
Pickford has long been the undisputed number one for both club and country, and the shot-stopper is an undeniably excellent player.
Recently, Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, Newcastle United’s Nick Pope, and Crystal Palace’s Sam Johnstone have all given him a run for his money for the Three Lions.
If Southgate recalls him, he will find himself in a similar predicament.
Pickford is presently battling to keep the Toffees out of the Premier League relegation zone, with Crystal Palace looming ahead.
