‘I want to’: Marco Tilio shares the real reason why he left Celtic on loan in January

“I want to”: Marco Tilio reveals the true cause of his January loan departure from Celtic.
When Marco Tilio joined Celtic last summer, there were huge expectations for him to become a star at the team.

The Hoops made history when they paid an Australian club a record-breaking £1.5 million to bring Tilio to Parkhead, but things went wrong very quickly. The young Australian winger’s Celtic career took a knock early on due to an injury he sustained during the preseason, and it never fully recovered.

After recovering from his injury in November, Tilio has only played in two games for the green and white Hoops, totaling a mere 27 minutes.

Earlier this season, Brendan Rodgers acknowledged that Tilio was having difficulties at Celtic. As a result, the 22-year-old is currently on loan at Melbourne City FC, his former team.

Tilio revealed the true reason why he choose Melbourne in an interview that was released yesterday night, even though his representatives had made contact with Sydney FC.

Tilio stated to Melbourne City FC, “I had the chance to return and give back to the Club that helped me grow and developed me as a young player. I can only express my gratitude to them for the time I spent here previously, and I hope to repay them in this time here now.

Marco Tilio’s prospects at Celtic
Simply said, that doesn’t look good. It’s clear that Tilio is a gifted player. He possesses potential, as seen by his seven Australia caps and three A-League championships. [Transfermarkt]
His time at Celtic was marred by injury and homesickness; perhaps a return home would be beneficial.
Even though he recovered from an injury more than three months ago, Rodgers may not think highly of the 22-year-old based on his lack of playing time.

Tilio will have his work cut out for him if he wants to make the Celtic first squad, especially considering the competition he faces in Hyunjun Yang, Daizen Maeda, Nicolas Kuhn, and to some extent, Luis Palma.

Tilio has already made three appearances for his new team; perhaps, he can make an impression and return to Celtic as a more assured player for the upcoming campaign.
