Astros’ Get Encouraging Update From Ace About Injury Recovery
As Spring Training begins, every team is concerned that players would sustain injuries that will prevent them from starting the season.
The Houston Astros’ ace, Justin Verlander, stated he is behind schedule due to a shoulder ailment.
Even at 40 years old, his absence from the Astros’ rotation would be a major setback to their chances of winning the World Series.
Of course, nothing significant was announced. Verlander was just updating media on what he’s been dealing with and how he feels behind schedule as Spring Training approaches.
However, at this age, his body will not recuperate as quickly as it once did.
And Houston requires him.
When he was acquired at the trade deadline last year, he was 7-3 in 11 starts with a 3.31 ERA and an ERA+ of 127.
Verlander is a vital part of the club this season.
The ace was able to toss off the mound during their bullpen session, which was a positive indication.
The Astros received better news when he arrived at the facility the next day and provided a positive report on how his body felt following that throwing session.
According to Brian McTaggart of MLB.com, manager Joe Espada stated that Verlander arrived today with a positive outlook on the farm.
Houston suffered with injuries to their starting rotation early last year, forcing them to rely on two rookies for the whole season.
With their ace returning and teamed with Framber Valdez, the front office hopes to have much more firepower, putting less load on their bullpen, which is more weaker than in previous years and coming off a bad season.
Having Verlander healthy at the start will be critical.
