Aston Villa eyeing Tielemans repeat to land “gifted athlete” for Emery.

Two other Premier League clubs are also in the running.

Youri Tielemans was signed to Aston Villa by Unai Emery on a free transfer last summer when his contract with Leicester City expired. Clubs all throughout Europe had expressed interest in Tielemans before of his release, but Villa emerged victorious.

Now that summer is approaching, Villa may try to pull off the same ploy of signing a player from a team that was demoted for free. Having only won 20 points thus far, Luton Town, who made it out of the Championship last year, may probably end up falling back down again. The Hatters enter their final 15 Premier League games one point above the relegation zone.

Villa one of the sides eyeing up Osho

Sportslens reports that Villa is keeping an eye on Gabriel Osho at Luton, whose contract is set to expire at the end of June.

Villa, Fulham, Crystal Palace, and other teams further up the division have been “catching the eye” on the defender.

Osho is anticipated to sign a free agency contract with a more “established top-flight side” if Luton is relegated, however they hope to keep him if they remain up this season.

Osho was single when he signed with Luton in 2020, and he is now a vital member of the Kenilworth Road team after stints at

Yeovil Town and Rochdale. He was eligible for all 31 Championship games last season, starting 22 of them.

Due to a pre-season injury, he was unable to play in the first games of the current season; nonetheless, manager Rob Edwards

believed that he would do well in the Premier League from the start.

He declared: “I really believe he can rise to any challenge because he is not only an exceptionally intelligent and switched-on

athlete but also a naturally gifted person.” He was playing at a level akin to a Premier League football player last year, so I think he’ll be able to step in and manage it rather well.”

Since then, Osho has proven his worth to his manager by starting 13 of the last 14 games. He’s been very busy at the back, as the

table below illustrates, but the most noteworthy statistic may be the third one, which indicates how challenging it is for attackers to overcome him one-on-one.

When questioned about the situation late last month, Edwards gave the press the impression that he was at ease with it, saying,

“I don’t think we’ve got too many that will be out of contract.” Though I believe most people are currently content with where they are and where they fit in, there may be an exception or two.

The most important thing is to finish January strong and make sure we’re in a good position when it ends. We won’t be

thinking about addressing it at this time. We can really start evaluating everyone’s contract status and our next course of action once February and March arrive.”

It’s unclear if Villa and other elite teams’ growing interest prompts Luton to try to move quickly with Osho, but the player might be holding off on committing until he learns their fate.
