The source for The Athletic also revealed information on the game, stating that the Detroit Red Wings and Columbus Blue Jackets will play. The article states that March 1, 2025, has been selected as the contest date.
There have long been rumors that Ohio Stadium will host an NHL outdoor game. Gene Smith, the athletic director of the Buckeyes, and league commissioner Gary Bettman have been in talks for the past few years.
Following rumors that he had spoken with Bettman on campus earlier that day, Smith was questioned about the possibility of Ohio Stadium hosting a Stadium Series game.
