‘He should walk’: Alan Stubbs calls for PL chief to resign amid Everton verdict saga

The tension is rising as Everton wait to find out the verdict of their appeal against their Premier League 10-point deduction.

Two months ago, the Toffees filed a formal appeal against their deduction after the Premier League decided to impose an extraordinary penalty for a Financial Fair Play violation.

Because of their belief that the punishment is unfair and harsh, Everton is currently in the relegation zone under Sean Dyche’s leadership.

The Premier League has sent Everton conflicting signals, and they will find out the outcome of their appeal next week.

One club legend has demanded that Richard Masters, the Premier League’s managing director, resign because there is uncertainty around the situation.

Speaking with Toffee TV, Alan Stubbs thinks that Dyche and the players are having problems because of the delay, and that the current point total can change again.

“You only have to listen to James Tarkowski last week – it is an issue,” he told Toffee TV.

“The players are playing for their Premier League survival, their futures.”

Stubbs also suggested that people’s livelihoods are at stake and that Masters should walk no matter the outcome.

He added: “This is a matter of urgency and we are still hanging by your coattails regarding a decision. It could be Wednesday, it could be Friday. These are people’s lives they’re playing with here.

“For me, irrespective of the outcome, he [Richard Maters] should walk.”

Dyche and the players must have found these extraordinary circumstances to be very difficult, and Everton’s decline in performance may have been the outcome.

Although the Everton manager is understandably upset over the penalty, he has consistently stated that his primary attention is still on the pitch.

Like everyone else in this area, I was taken aback. Everyone in football seems to have been surprised [by] the flood of noise, Dyche said to BBC Sport back in November.

“It doesn’t change the focus, which is sorting things out on the pitch, getting the team to win and the performances to feel different.”

On Monday night, Everton will play Crystal Palace in an attempt to win their first game of 2024. A victory over Manchester United, who is playing well, on Sunday may move Luton Town out of the relegation zone in advance of the appeal decision the following week.

In the best-case scenario, Everton might be able to avoid difficulty very fast if points are awarded.
