Chris Sutton labels Rangers ‘phenomenal’ and can’t see old trait rearing its ugly head again.

Chris Sutton, who hyped an exciting Scottish Premiership title fight, believes Rangers need to avoid becoming complacent following their “phenomenal” return. With a 3-1 victory over Ross County at Ibrox on Wednesday night, Philippe Clement erased the seven-point deficit he inherited, helping the Light Blues claw their way back into the league scrap. With the Hoops hosting Kilmarnock on Saturday and rivals Rangers visiting St Johnstone the following day, Celtic now leads only on goal differential.

Sutton, a former Parkhead striker and Record Sport columnist, has expressed great admiration for Clement. However, he cautioned the Belgian on the BBC Football Daily podcast that while he is sure his players won’t get ahead of themselves, he can’t afford to let them. The one thing the Rangers can’t afford to do, and I don’t think they will, is become complacent because I don’t think the manager will let them do that, the man stated.

“They have become complacent in past seasons. Either way, though, things can go apart very fast. Rangers, you know, really haven’t gotten it. Philippe Clement doesn’t seem to be implying that they have. Certainly, Celtic’s hopes of winning the title still remain. It’s evident that Celtic hasn’t played as well as they did under Ange Postecoglou this season, but they’re still level pegging.

There are complaints and rumblings at Celtic, and the supporters aren’t happy, or at least a particular portion of them isn’t happy with a variety of issues that we haven’t had time to discuss. Celtic has beaten Rangers in their head-to-head matches thus far, and they are required to play each other twice. However, the Rangers’ return is truly amazing. They are a distinct group. They have a manager that is serious and has a different mindset.
