4 worst head coach hires in UCLA football history

The four worst head coaches in UCLA football history were hired.

DeShaun Foster was named the new head coach of UCLA, and supporters of the Bruins must hope that his career takes a turn for the better than the four coaches on this list.

Since Karl Dorrell, DeShaun Foster is the only head football coach at UCLA to be hired without prior head coaching experience. Like Foster, Dorell was a former UCLA athlete. Supporters of the Bruins must hope that things go much more smoothly this time.

Although Dorell finished with a 10-2 record including a Sun Bowl victory in 2005, he was 1-3 in bowl games throughout his five seasons. DeWayne Walker, who took over for Dorrell in 2007 before the Las Vegas Bowl due to Dorrell’s firing, also lost that game.

Dorrell’s main issue as a coach at USC was having to follow Pete Carroll’s lead. Even in Dorrell’s finest year, 2005, USC defeated the Bruins with the biggest margin of victory in their rivalry since 1929, defeating them 66-19. At the time, USC was the top team in the nation.

After finishing his time at UCLA with a 35-27 record, Dorrell was replaced by Rick Neuheisel, a former colleague.
