21 G/A striker posts Ross County numbers that prove he can be Rangers goal hero

21-year-old G/A striker can be a Rangers goal hero after posting impressive Ross County figures.

It’s unlikely that many of the roughly 50,000 Rangers supporters who witnessed the team’s 3-1 victory over Ross County, including Cyriel Dessers, will have witnessed a match like that.

Although the Gers number nine divides opinion minute by minute, manager Philippe Clement unmistakably supports him.

The Rangers boss has been using his players as efficiently as possible to keep them fresh, but as his amazing figures from last night show, Cyriel Dessers is still a player who can frustrate opponents and win the game.

Cyriel Dessers, the matchwinner for the Rangers, deserves support.

As of right now, the 29-year-old has contributed 21 goals to the season at a rate of about one every game in terms of minutes played, with 14 goals and seven assists.

Without taking penalties, only five minutes per goal more than Lawrence Shankland in the league.

Still, though…

He had eight shots on goal against Ross County, hitting the post twice, and having one goal-bound attempt cleared off the line. He had a strong 9/10 on the player ratings.

To be fair, the large Nigerian international always finds himself in the right places at the right times.

Fabio Silva has two in his last two appearances and offers a different type of threat to Cyriel Dessers but Rangers having more than one striker that they can rely on can only be a good thing.

Because of his slow start to life at Ibrox, Dessers still seems to be met with the same moans and groans if he misses a chance.

Even Ally McCoist, for those too young to recall, occasionally missed his share of opportunities.

Is Dessers the kind of striker we were hoping to get in the summer?

No.

However, if his teammates perform as expected, he will score 20 goals and dish out 10 assists at his current rate.

Considering the issues the squad faced in the early going of the season, this kind of comeback could prove to be crucial in the closing stages of the league.

Even while Dessers still seems like the hero we don’t want, he might still turn out to be the one we need.
