‘He had everything’: Alan Shearer names Everton star he wishes he could have played alongside

Former Newcastle United striker Alan Shearer certainly had an impressive career at the top level of English football.

Shearer’s record of 260 Premier League goals hasn’t been surpassed yet, and with Harry Kane joining Bayern Munich, it might stand for a very long time.

The legendary player from Newcastle shared the pitch with some of the greatest ever, including Paul Schools, David Beckham, and Michael Owen.

Nevertheless, the Tyneside icon wishes he had played with this former Everton player.

Shearer mentioned how much he would have loved to have played with former Everton player Wayne Rooney on the Rest is Football Podcast.

“I would have liked to have played with Rooney, Wayne Rooney,” he said.

“I think he would have been brilliant to play alongside; he had everything as well.”

Wayne Rooney was one of England’s best

It’s safe to say that Rooney’s professional beginnings were quite remarkable.

He had it all, from making his debut with Manchester United and Everton to representing England in the World Cup.

It is a testament to Rooney’s brilliance that people like Shearer are applauding him.

In 491 games, 208 goals and 114 assists in the Premier League is an impressive result. In truth, if Rooney had continued to play at his extraordinarily high calibre, Shearer’s record might have been seriously threatened.

Regretfully, Rooney’s tenure as manager hasn’t been as successful. He made an impression in his debut with Derby County, but things could not have gone worse in his most recent position with Birmingham City.

It’s difficult to see how the former striker for Everton plans to return to coaching. According to reports, Rooney is keen to work in Saudi Arabia, wanting to emulate Steven Gerrard.

Furthermore, according to Sky Sports News, Rooney’s ambition to become a world-class coach remains untarnished despite his time at Birmingham City.

It’s thought that Rooney is currently hesitant to take on any roles while he tries to make a comeback into management.
Turning around appears to be the wisest move. To steer clear of making the same mistakes he did in the Midlands, the former Everton striker must consider the reasons behind his failures.

Given that Rooney needs time to learn and consider his past leadership experiences, it might be wise to look for an assistant manager or coaching role.
