Gers can seal deal for next gen £10m playmaker in £4.3m option

Rangers can sign Joe Aribo 2.0 by completing first refusal summer signing.

Rangers were not anticipated to spend much money in the January transfer window, but when Mohamed Diomande arrived, it was clear that Philippe Clement would be supported.

The Gaffer’s summer budget will be reduced by £4.3 million when the 22-year-old Ivorian’s loan move becomes permanent. This will provide ample time for the young player to adjust to his new surroundings and club size.

Mohamed Diomande made his Rangers debut against Ayr United, looking smart and unlucky not to score with an incredible overhead kick. Will he play in the number 10 role more often?

Rangers have new Aribo in Mohamed Diomande signing

There are immediate analogies with a recent Ibrox exit.

Diomande’s technical and physical abilities resemble those of Southampton’s £10 million signing Joe Aribo, despite his smaller stature.

Mohamed Diomande’s versatility might benefit the Rangers squad, as he explains in an interview with Rangers TV.

“I can play anywhere in the center.

“So I can play Nos. 6, 8, and 10. I just take this opportunity to assist the team.

“Wherever the manager puts me, I’m just going to try my most for the team.

“My position is No 8, but I can play anywhere in the middle.”

During that historic Braga comeback, Aribo played every position in midfield, the attacking line, and even at left back.

Diomande may not have quite that range, but his performance over the weekend provided some indication as to the kind of player we would be dealing with.

He didn’t have the same threat when dribbling as Aribo, but he showed that he was eager to move the ball fast and aid in the attack.

Playing beside John Lundstram is highly competitive because he occupies the anchor position in midfield.

The good news is that there is no rush to bring Mohamed Diomande in right away, and he can be given time to adjust to a new formation and style of play in the most stressful of situations.

Only Philippe Clement knows where he belongs in that configuration.
