Barcelona make Everton star Amadou Onana ‘number one target’ for £34.1m summer transfer.
FC Barcelona has declared Everton player Amadou Onana their “number one target” for a midfield deal this summer, although they do not want to pay more than £34.1 million.
According to Spanish news agency Sport (February 14), Deco has chosen the Belgian midfielder as the best alternative to strengthen the Catalan squad.
Everton are unwilling to spend more than £34.1 million on Onana, despite his asking price of roughly €60 million (£51.2 million).
“Deco believes that the team lacks ‘physical and athletic ability’ to beat its opponents and will try to resolve it in the next market,” they stated in the letter.
“The favorite to arrive as a midfielder is Everton’s Senegalese player Amadou Onana, who stands out for his powerful physical display and ball control.
“Despite his arrival, he is mostly a positional player. The Toffees’ potential relegation (they have already received one sanction with a point loss, and a second may have disastrous implications) would make his inclusion easier.Barça does not plan to pay more than €40 million (£34.1 million).
With the club’s current financial predicament, Everton will expect to lose at least one elite player this summer, which is obviously not ideal.
With the 10-point deduction placing the club in a relegation battle when they should be in mid-table, the odds of losing the club’s finest players have increased, and the summer transfer window now appears to be extremely difficult to manage.
Several clubs are interested in signing Jarrad Branthwaite, and the Toffees may not be able to turn down significant bids. It will be considerably more difficult if they cannot avoid relegation to the Championship.
But if Barcelona is only willing to spend £34.1 million, which is roughly what we paid for him two years ago, they have no chance of winning the race.
Other teams are interested and will undoubtedly be willing to pay more, and because he has lots of time on his contract, we are not in a position where everything must be accepted, allowing us to wait for the best offer.
