Celtic legend makes grim Parkhead title prediction as Rangers given ultimate seal of title approval
As things stand, the Celtic veteran doesn’t believe the title will be coming to Parkhead.
Rangers are currently the Premiership title favourites, according to John Hartson.
The Celtic legend has weighed in on the fight for the Scottish Premiership, with the Ibrox club able to go top by defeating Ross County by three goals or more on Wednesday night.
Rangers won 2-0 over Ayr United in the Scottish Cup, while Brendan Rodgers’ team defeated St Mirren by the same score.
Former Hoops striker Hartson believes Philippe Clement’s squad is more likely to win the title in May. According to Go Radio, the absence of compelling style in Celtic’s victories is a major contributing factor.
Hartson said: “With their current form, it’s up to Celtic to prove that they were treble winners last season. The players must improve significantly because they have been straying from the line in some games.
“And right now I would probably make Rangers favourites. I really, really would, just because of the way that Celtic are not convincingly beating teams. They are going 1-0 up, they’re getting pegged up, then they’re getting a late winner.
“Idah up front, untried, he’s a work in progress. Brendan spoke about quality and I think all the Celtic fans expected a bit more in the window but we are where we are.
“We’ve got to work with the guys we have, and I believe it’s a significant challenge for Celtic to win the title today. Celtic may win all four games against Rangers while losing the league. If they can’t win at Aberdeen, if they lose points at home to Hearts, and if they draw at home to other opponents, the Rangers Celtic games will not determine the title.
“They might this year, but Rangers have 14 games left, Celtic have 13, and neither team can afford any slips up. Give kudos to the Rangers, who have only lost one game in 18 while remaining in Europe and winning a trophy.
“Clement said the other day that they want to win everything; he never mentioned a treble, but we understood what he meant. I sort of replied, “Well, fair play.” He’s shown his guys, he’s given them the challenge; can they handle it?”
