Tottenham making most concrete effort to sign Jarrad Branthwaite.
Tottenham Hotspur are making a serious effort to sign Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite in the summer transfer window.
Spurs strengthened their defence in the January transfer window by adding Radu Dragusin from Genoa. However, Ange Poastecoglou is eager to add another top-tier centre-back to the squad and has identified Bratnhwaite as a possible candidate.
The 21-year-old defender has been “outstanding” for the Toffees this season and is a regular under Sean Dyche at Goodison Park.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs may face competition from Manchester United for his signing. While Chelsea, Arsenal, and Real Madrid have all expressed interest in the defender, Tottenham are “making the most concerted effort” at this point.
If Spurs manage to finish in the top four this season, they will have the financial boost to make a concrete attempt to sign Branthwaite in the summer.
Blockbuster deal
Brathwaite has been a standout for Everton at the back this season, earning praise from commentators and his boss.
He earns £35,000 a week at Goodison Park and the Toffees are not under any rush to move him. Everton are anticipated to pay around £100 million for this “Rolls Royce defender”.
Everton are once again fighting for Premier League survival after being deducted ten points for violating financial fair play regulations. They could face more punishment, and if that happens, it will be extremely difficult for them to retain their Premier League status next season.
In any event, Everton may need to sell some of their top players next summer to make room for new signings, and Branthwaite has emerged as one of their most valuable assets.
He will be a huge signing for Postecoglou, but it appears unlikely that Spurs will spend that much for Branthwaite. If Everton remain in the Premier League, they are unlikely to drop their asking price.
