Saints hiring Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator should unlock Alvin Kamara

The New Orleans Saints have hired Klint Kubiak as offensive coordinator, which should benefit running back Alvin Kamara the most.

Klint Kubiak will continue to serve as offensive coordinator for the New Orleans Saints. Kubiak is an excellent offensive coach

who grew up around the NFL. Klint, Gary Kubiak’s son, has been coaching in the NFL since 2013. Klint Kubiak most recently

served as the San Francisco 49ers’ pass game coordinator in 2023.

While Kubiak has vast experience in numerous settings, his work with the 49ers should be particularly appealing to Saints fans.

In addition to having one of the league’s best offenses and reaching the Super Bowl, San Francisco had Christian McCaffrey as the Offensive Player of the Year.

McCaffrey led the league in rushing this season, amassing 1,459 yards on 272 runs and 14 rushing touchdowns. He has also had 67 receptions for 564 yards and seven touchdowns.

Obviously, Kubiak will not bring Christian McCaffrey with him to the Saints; San Francisco would never allow that.

Fortunately, New Orleans already has a similarly good player in Alvin Kamara. Kubiak might help Kamara take his game to the next level.

Will Klint Kubiak improve Saints’ usage of Alvin Kamara?

Kamara and McCaffrey both entered the league in 2017 and were frequently compared due to their similar skill sets and output.

However, in recent years, there has been a major difference in perceptions of the two running backs.

McCaffrey was recently ranked as the league’s top running back, while Kamara was listed at number 30.

The difference between the two is primarily due to their usage rather than their skills.

McCaffrey found himself in an ideal scenario in San Francisco after the 49ers acquired him in 2022. Playing on a stacked

offense, McCaffrey became the team’s engine, and he delivered.

Alvin Kamara’s situation has not been as pleasant. In 2023, he appeared in 13 games, rushing 180 times for 694 yards and five

touchdowns. He also has 75 receptions for 466 yards and a touchdown.

Kubiak understands how an attack can be built around a special running back. He will not be able to bring the offensive line and

weapons that San Francisco has, but he should be able to employ concepts and designs to use Kamara in the same way that the

49ers use Christian McCaffery.

If Kubiak does this, and the rest of the offense follows suit, Alvin Kamara should be able to remind everyone that he’s one of the

best running backs in the NFL, and the Saints offense will benefit.
