Narrative’ as ‘Spiky’!!Neil Lennon doubts Rangers shrill Rodgers criticised at Celtic

Neil Lennon has questioned why the “narrative” around Rangers is so much more positive than the one surrounding Celtic, which criticizes Brendan Rodger.

After the Light Blues’ Scottish Cup victory over Ayr United on February 12, Tam McManus said that a Light Blues triple this season is “not a million miles away from them.” The former Parkhead manager commented on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show. Despite closing the gap in the SPFL and winning the League Cup already this season after rallying from a struggling season, Philippe Clement hinted that Celtic and his team aren’t all that unlike. Celtic is currently leading the SPFL and hasn’t lost in their last eight league games.

(25 minutes and 40 seconds) “This is an intriguing story. Rangers are putting out results, according to Tam. Celtic’s past nine games have seen them win eight and draw one.

And that’s quite impressive, but they’re the ones receiving all the flak, and Brendan is receiving flak for his performances—quite rightly—not living up to our expectations. Is that something we should anticipate? Despite having a new coach and a rather inexperienced team, they are nevertheless winning games.

“However, the storyline suggests that Rangers are winning and Celtics are having trouble. You can see why Brendan could become a little tense over it.

While there is undoubtedly a difference in the atmospheres of the two sides, there may be a legitimate point in the current shape that the two sides are comparable.

As Peter Martin noted, Rodgers took over for Ange Postecoglou following the Australian’s treble victory, and he appears to have witnessed the Hoops’ decline—aside from the circumstances surrounding the Northern Irishman’s initial departure to Leicester—while Clement succeeded Michael Beale after a disastrous tenure marked by “claptrap.”

Not to be forgotten is the fact that Celtic led by seven points going into the Belgian’s visit to Ibrox, and that victory over Aberdeen last week brought Rangers level on points with the leaders.

It’s obvious that Clement hasn’t been flawless, and if he doesn’t win the next encounter, the lone stain on his record—the 2-1 Old Firm derby loss on December 30—will become more noticeable. However, it makes sense that winning a trophy and sparking a title fight that appeared lost when he started the job in mid-October would boost support for a team.

When Beale dropped three games in the league before the end of September, the notion of a treble would have been laughed out of the room, but because of Clement’s work, whether it happens or not, it is no longer a ridiculous notion.

Michael Stewart was incensed by what he witnessed at Ibrox, according to other Rangers stories.
