As the appeal verdict approaches, Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer criticize the Everton points deduction “mess.”
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have called the scenario surrounding Everton’s point deduction a “mess”.
The’mess’ surrounding Everton’s point deduction has caused a falling out between Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer.
Former England strikers Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker have criticized Everton for losing Premier League points, calling the situation a “mess.”
For a single profit and sustainability rule violation, Everton was penalized ten points in November, the worst sports punishment in the 135-year history of English premier league football. The Blues are currently awaiting the outcome of their appeal against that ruling; even once it is made public this week, there will still be another charge to address.
The Golden Boot winner from the 1986 World Cup finals, Lineker, who played for the Blues, said, “As for Everton, that’s seven league games without a win,” in an interview with the podcast The Rest is Football. During the 1985–86 season, Lineker scored 40 goals in 57 games for Everton. After the points deduction, they had a really good run of play, but that’s when they turned things around. It was an unsettling performance.
“The point deduction and its potential reduction remain a cloud over them. Without having any inside information, I have a suspicion that it might.
“They’ve obviously appealed, and that’s gone through, so we’re waiting on that, but I don’t know,” Shearer continued. They might earn some points back, but they might also go eliminated again, in my opinion. It’s a very disorganized circumstance.
The Blues’ 10-point deduction caused them to lose four straight Premier League games. But after falling to Manchester City 2-0 on Saturday, they have now lost four and drawn seven of their last seven games.
