Falcons legend talks about choosing Raheem Morris over Bill Belichick for the job.

Matt Ryan, a former Most Valuable Player for the Atlanta Falcons and current NFL analyst for CBS Sports, recently discussed the hiring of Raheem Morris, a former defensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Rams, as the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons, rather than Bill Belichick, with Ryan Gaydos of Fox News Digital.

“I think there was consideration to what Bill could bring to the organisation,” Ryan stated. However, I don’t find it shocking that Raheem returned there. He spent six years living with us in Atlanta. He was always so good, in my opinion. He had experience coaching a variety of positions. He replaced us as our defensive coordinator, went to offence, then returned to defence to take over as our acting head coach. I therefore observed him in all of these various contexts. He was a man capable of coaching anyone. He simply has a knack for outwitting the opposition.”

Ryan was a member of the Falcons throughout the time when Morris worked for the team from 2015 through the 2020 campaign as an interim head coach, defensive coordinator, wide receivers coach/offensive pass game coordinator, and assistant head coach. When describing why Morris was “just the best choice for us” over the legendary Belichick, Blank brought up this incident.

Ryan said of Morris, “He also understands the organisation.” “I think it’s beneficial that they are aware of the organization’s internal workings. He gets along really well with Arthur Blank. I believe he would fit in well in Atlanta. That is something I firmly think. I support the football club down there because I believe they are a good one and they just need to secure the quarterback position this offseason.”

In the end, Morris appointed Zac Robinson, a former quarterbacks coach and pass game coordinator for the Rams, as Atlanta’s new offensive coordinator. Ryan stated that Robinson is a younger version of San Francisco 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan, and that Morris “is fired up about Zac”.

Since the beginning of the 2019 season, Shanahan has led the Niners to two visits to the Super Bowl and is recognised as one of the best offensive brains in the game.

Morris and Kyle have a close relationship, according to Ryan. “He has a clear idea of how that procedure ought to proceed. He trusts Zac with his life.”

will now try to erase from Falcons fans’ memories the possibility that Belichick was just one pleasant conversation with Blank in January away from taking the Atlanta job.
