3 Bold Cowboys Predictions for the 2024 Offseason
Following another disappointing playoff exit, the Cowboys will have some work to do this offseason. Here are a few bold predictions for what might happen in Dallas.
After securing the No. 2 seed in the playoffs this season, the Dallas Cowboys appeared to be on track for a deep run.
However, their postseason odyssey came to an end shortly when they were humbled at home by the Green Bay Packers.
With another swift exit in the Mike McCarthy era, it was expected that Jerry Jones would hunt for a new head coach.
That was not the case, as McCarthy will have at least one more opportunity to lead the Cowboys to the NFC Championship Game
for the first time since the 1990s. Jones has made it obvious that the team will do whatever it takes this offseason to win the Lombardi Trophy.
What signings or deals can they make to finally get over the hump? Below, we’ll go over some of the bold predictions for this offseason.
1. Cowboys Sign Derrick Henry
After not re-signing Ezekiel Elliott last offseason, the Cowboys elected to go with Tony Pollard as the primary back this season. Pollard had his moments this season, but it’s evident he’s not a starting running back.
The former University of Memphis running back had his second consecutive 1,000-yard rushing season (1,006) and scored six touchdowns. Pollard’s average yardage per carry was 4.0, the lowest of his career.
Pollard, who is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in March, might be re-signed by the Cowboys on a multi-year contract. Or Dallas could sign Derrick Henry to a one-year contract to run behind that offensive line.
The star running back had a subpar season in Tennessee by his standards, but he still carried for 1,167 yards and 12 touchdowns on 280 attempts.
It wasn’t an easy year for Henry, who deserves to play for a contender because he probably doesn’t have much left in the tank. Could you picture the looks Henry may get as opposition defenses worry about CeeDee Lamb and Jake Ferguson?
It’s a disturbing thought that the Cowboys should consider this offseason before re-signing Pollard.
