“The summer window’s top target” – Journalist now divulges Celtic transfer rumor
The ‘top goal for the summer window’ for Celtic is bringing in a new left-back, but transfer source Dean Jones has told GIVEMESPORT that manager Brendan Rodgers is coming under more and more pressure in the Parkhead dugout.
Even though the Bhoys added Nicolas Kuhn, a £3 million acquisition from Rapid Vienna, to their roster before Adam Idah arrived on loan from Norwich City on deadline day, they have witnessed Old Firm rivals Rangers get closer to the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Thanks to Jota’s £25 million move to Saudi Pro League heavyweights Al-Ittihad in July, Celtic entered the early months of 2024 with a strong budget, and they have already begun making preparations in front of the transfer market reopening for business before the 2024–25 campaign begins.
Prior to the winter transfer window’s deadline of February 1st, Rodgers was reportedly shopping about for a left-back, and in an attempt to increase his alternatives at the position, he finally settled on Layvin Kurzawa of Paris Saint-Germain. The 13-cap France international’s representatives reportedly informed the Glasgow giants of his availability after seeing very little action this season—just eight minutes—but a deal could not be reached in time for the 11 p.m. deadline, so he stayed at the Parc des Princes even though he is unlikely to be a key player in his current employer’s Ligue 1 title push.
Since Greg Taylor’s calf injury last month forced him to miss several weeks of action, Rodgers prioritized finding a replacement. The numbers show that Kurzawa would have been a better option had they been successful in their negotiations with PSG. Reputable reporter Jones recently stated to GIVEMESPORT that the Bhoys’ inability to sign a left-back during the winter transfer window caught them off guard because the position had been identified as essential going into the new year, and their late pursuit of Kurzawa underscored the fact that they were running out of choices.
It’s believed that Celtic’s attempt to capture the 31-year-old was thwarted by PSG’s demand for a hefty price. The Scottish Premiership winners, frustrated that Wolverhampton Wanderers had rejected their approach for Hugo Bueno, turned their attention to Kurzawa. However, their attempts to come to an agreement were made too late, and Rodgers will have few options for the rest of the season. Jones thinks that Rangers’ return to the Scottish Premiership title race after losses to Kilmarnock, Heart of Midlothian, and Aberdeen in the past two months will put pressure on Rodgers’ job, even though he still thinks Celtic will rekindle their interest in acquiring a left-back when the transfer window reopens in the summer. The respected reporter believes that the Northern Irish tactician’s future at Parkhead is in doubt as a result of his inability to secure significant wins to keep them ahead at the top of the division. As a result, he will have to convince some segments of the fan base that he is the right person for the position.
“Based on current analysis, it appears that the left-back position will be the top priority for the summer transfer window. You’re also curious as to what state Celtic will even be in at that point. When January first started, I believed that this would be a strengthening assignment to ensure that they could fend off Rangers’ title bid. But as February gets underway, the Rangers are once again challenging for the championship.
“I believe there is still plenty of time for Brendan Rodgers to completely win everyone over and for the transfer situation to alter. Regarding the most recent outcomes, there will undoubtedly be some doubts.”
