Rangers Women transfer news as Megan Cunningham ’emergency recall’ triggered for Celtic clash

Rangers Women have recalled Megan Cunningham from her loan switch with Partick Thistle to bolster Jo Potter’s goalkeeping options at Ibrox, the Gers have confirmed.

Sharing the update via X on Monday (12 February) the Light Blues confirmed that they had recalled Cunningham on a temporary basis, activating a seven-day “emergency recall” option in her loan switch, following the Gers’ draw with Partick Thistle on Sunday (11 February).Potter’s side aren’t in action again until Sunday (18 February) when Rangers will face Old Firm rivals Celtic at Ibrox and it would appear that Cunningham will be included in the squad as the Gers look to extend their lead at the top of the table.

Jo Potter strengthening Rangers ranks before Celtic showdown

Rangers Women have a healthy lead at the top of the Scottish Women’s Premier League of four points and having missed the chance to extend that by a further two on Sunday, they will be hoping to bounce back against Celtic at Ibrox.Potters’ side have had success there already this season and they will be hoping that the big home crowd and atmosphere created in the stands will be able to help propel them over the line to claim all three points in the Glasgow grudge match.

The only worry for supporters will be whether somebody in the Gers’ camp has picked up an injury. That seems to be the only reason Potter would opt to bring Cunningham back into the fold for just a week, especially considering the Light Blues don’t have a midweek game. Hopefully, everyone in the playing squad will be fit and available as Rangers look to replicate their Old Firm win from earlier this season and move a step closer to the league title this term.
