Ryan Kent slammed by ex Rangers star as winger makes shock Fenerbahce appearance
The attacker was unexpectedly hauled out of cold storage after making his first appearance in three months last night.
Ryan Kent received an unexpected lifeline from Fenerbahce after making his first appearance in three months.
Ex-Rangers star Tugay Kerimoglu killed the winger, putting him in the firing line once more. Kent was expected to depart
Fenerbahce in January, but declined bids from Lazio and Steven Gerrard’s Al Ettifaq. The 27-year-old’s refusal to leave Fener surprised club officials who tried to push him out.
Despite his persistence, Kent was unexpectedly called into action in yesterday’s 2-2 Super Lig tie at home to Alanyaspor.
The former Ibrox hero was included to the matchday squad for the first time since November, and he appeared for five minutes, replacing captain Edin Dzeko in pursuit of a dramatic late winner.
Kent was unable to make a difference, as both clubs split the spoils, denying Fenerbahce the opportunity to overtake title rivals
Galatasaray at the top of the league on goal difference. Despite having little time to impress, Kent was singled out for criticism by former Gers title-winner Tugay, who spent two years at Ibrox from 1999 to 2001.
Tugay, a Turkish TV expert, blasted: “When you’re trying to win a game, you don’t take your primary striker out and replace him with someone who doesn’t want to be there and is actively trying to sell.
“Ryan Kent has contributed very little to Fenerbahce. I’m not sure why they thought it was a good idea to put him back in the squad so quickly after such a long absence.”
