Rangers CFO James Taylor provides ‘important’ FFP update at Ibrox in new Everton verdict

In light of the recent Everton ruling, Rangers CFO James Taylor gives a “important” FFP update at Ibrox.

After what occurred to Everton and Nottingham Forest, Rangers Chief Financial Officer James Taylor has outlined the club’s stance on UEFA regulations and Financial Fair Play.

Although Taylor has stated that the club has a great relationship with UEFA and is complying with the laws, both Premier League clubs were charged with violations of financial rules, which led to increased scrutiny on all top clubs.

Nonetheless, he made the argument that Rangers could not be compared to teams like Everton, Forest, Fulham, or Brighton due to the difference in media revenue between England and Scotland.

Speaking to the Four Lads Had a Dream podcast [12 February], Taylor shared: “From a monitoring standpoint, there are three pillars and we’re effectively covered by all three. First, we need to make sure there are no unpaid football bills because overdue payables are due. Transfer costs, contingent transfer costs, and so forth.

The second concerns football revenues and what is commonly referred to as FFP, as seen in southern teams like Everton and Nottingham Forest, and that is in relation to the losses over an extended period of time.

“You subtract a number of investments from your profit and loss figure. Make sure you stay within the €5 million acceptable limit. We’re happy with the numbers we published last year because, of course, we were inside them. That’s the one you should watch going forward.

“A Rangers team is different from Fulham or Brighton in the commercial context that it plays in. For someone in the south, the impact of a strong or poor European season on football earnings can be substantial due to the disparity in media revenues between our region and England. For us, it’s critical that the investments we make have a sustainable foundation.

“As a football club, we believe we’re making progress from a UEFA perspective. We should work to keep up our positive connection with UEFA in the future.

Rangers will exercise particular caution regarding their financial situation.

The good news for Rangers’ supporters is that their position appears to be distant from what the clubs of Everton, Forest, and other Premier League teams are facing; yet, they still need to monitor it.

The club made an announcement more than five years ago that it would attempt to become self-sustaining within two years, but despite requests to alter course before their AGM in December, they are still unable to meet their financial obligations.

Gers fans, who are always extremely worried about the club’s finances following what happened to them earlier, would be pleased to hear that they seem to be in a healthy financial position.

Taylor has now addressed what football financial expert Kielan Maguire recently published, which stated that Rangers’ matchday revenue and income are at least comparable to the top six clubs in England. The major distinction is the media money.

Rangers’ financial success depends on their ability to compete in UEFA competitions, and their solid working relationship and dedication to the organization should benefit them for many years to come.

In other Rangers news, one Gers star completely astounded Barry Ferguson.
