Packers make final decision regarding QB Jordan Love’s contract

The future franchise quarterback for the Green Bay Packers is Jordan Love, and he’s going to get paid accordingly.

The precise amount is still out in the question between the Packers and Love, but on Super Bowl Sunday, Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero, and Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reported that the Packers intend to sign Love to a long-term contract in or around June 2024 that will pay him “fair-market” compensation for an NFL starting quarterback.

Before the 2023 season, the Packers worked out a stopgap agreement with Love, giving him a $22.5 million one-year extension through 2024 and a raise in 2023 before Green Bay had to exercise Love’s fifth-year option. Since the agreement was reached in May, his contract won’t likely be changed again until May of this year.

It is anticipated that the Packers will be open to talking to Love about a new, fair-market contract that compensates him like a real starter. It makes obvious because QB trades typically occur in June, just before the start of training camp. Love, who is still only 25 years old, is about to receive his first significant salary.

Spotrac predicts Love’s market value at $44.8 million annually ($179.4 million total) over a new four-year deal.

Jordan Love Honors History of QB Play in Green Bay as He Leads Packers Into Future

Jordan Love, Packers

Love is aware of the gravity of being the quarterback who comes after Brett Favre and Aaron Rodgers, the two MVPs and Super Bowl winners who came before him.

Love discussed what it means to take on that role during a radio hit on “The Jim Rome Show” during Super Bowl week in Las Vegas. It looks like he will keep that role for a few more seasons.

“Dude, playing quarterback for the Green Bay Packers is truly something special.” According to Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, Love stated, “It’s the legacy that came before me, all the great quarterbacks that have been there with Aaron, Brett.”

Love went on, “Green Bay produces quarterbacks that go into the Hall of Fame, and it’s an honor to be able to follow these guys.” You want to go out there and compete, be the greatest, and become the next great quarterback in Green Bay because it holds you to a higher level. However, it’s a unique location to be. In Green Bay, the supporters are unique. I’m thrilled to be a part of that, and I hope to continue the outstanding quarterback play lineage and tradition.

Jordan Love Among Best QBs in NFL in First Season as Starter

Love, like those great Green Bay quarterbacks who came before him, was outstanding in the latter stages of the regular season and into the playoffs, showing up in the most important situations.

With a 9-8 record and three victories in a row in the last three weeks of the regular season, the Packers concluded the season 7-3 and secured the last NFC playoff position. After leading the team to just one interception in the last eight games, Love destroyed the Dallas Cowboys on Super Wildcard Weekend, throwing for 272 yards, three touchdowns, and almost a perfect passer rating.

In the Packers’ Divisional Round loss to the San Francisco 49ers, Aaron had more difficulty and threw two interceptions, one of which ended the game. Nevertheless, Love eliminated any doubt about who will lead Green Bay’s attack for many years to come. He did this by winning the postseason after the quarterback had a season in which he passed for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns, and just 11 interceptions.
