He will go for it’ – Director increasingly focused on Everton star, transfer effort ‘taken for granted’

Amadou Onana, a star player for Everton, is a target for Barcelona director of football Deco, and some team members feel that the endeavor to sign him is “taken for granted.”

That’s according to AS, who maintain that Barcelona is still considering the midfielder as one of its alternatives for the summer transfer window.

According to a report that surfaced last week, Deco has considered Onana as a potential addition to the team as he attempts to bolster the midfield for the upcoming campaign.

Even though a deal was doubtful and that article made it apparent he could only transfer at a particular price, Onana was still considered, with an exit from Goodison Park looking imminent in the summer.
Deco feels that he has to locate a player akin to Yaya Toure and bring more physicality to the midfield choices because people close to him at the club have ‘taken it for granted’ that a player of that caliber will be pursued.

Onana meets the criteria, and Deco says he’ll take it if he can persuade Everton to drop their asking price to about €40 million. It seems unlikely that he will do that, though.

According to AS, Barcelona, which is subject to Financial Fair Play regulations, would not be able to acquire Onana easily and would only be able to do so in the event that they made a significant sale, like that of Ronald Araujo or Frenkie de Jong.

Additionally, considering Onana’s growth and the fact that they have bids for him from Arsenal and Chelsea, it seems doubtful that Everton would approve a transfer for €40 million given they originally paid €35 million to buy him.

The Everton star’s name is “written in red” on Deco’s agenda, should the chance to acquire him arise, even though a deal to send the midfielder to Camp Nou now appears doubtful.
