Danny Collins believes that Nazariy Rusyn, a forward for Sunderland, will want his teammates to give him a little bit more ball in the opponent box so he can attack.
After Ross Stewart left, Sunderland signed the Ukrainian centre forward in the summer to bolster their attacking options.
Though Rusyn hasn’t been able to solve the Black Cats’ issues in front of the opposition goal, past players have praised him for his work ethic.
Collins said that Rusyn can be a bother for tall defenders as well, pointing out that the forward exudes confidence when he picks up the ball while rushing through the channels.
Collins did, however, also note that Rusyn needs his Sunderland teammates to attack more by placing more balls in the opposition box.
Collins told Sunderland’s reporters, “We have mentioned it there, his work rate alone, putting pressure on centre-backs and anybody he comes up against.”
He is not the biggest in terms of physicality while going up against guys who are much bigger, but he puts himself about.
“He appears to be able to shift a few times there as well; he exudes confidence when he picks up the ball and moves through the channels.
From his perspective, the only thing he could possibly desire a little bit more of is, of course, a little bit more ball in the box.
“Well, it’s all well and good to work hard for the team, run the channels, and occasionally go deeper, but he seems to be a touch finicky when it comes to wanting those balls in behind.
Rusyn is still looking for his first league start after failing to make an impression in Michael Beale’s starting lineup against Huddersfield Town on Wednesday.
