Everton news: £60m-a-year stadium development could now ‘save the club’ – Wyness

Wyness claims new Everton stadium could raise “£60million-a-year”

Former Everton manager Keith Wyness believes the club’s “spectacular” new stadium might be a “saviour” for the Toffees.

On Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old CEO of Goodison Park from 2004-2009, who now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs, stated that 777 Partners will struggle to complete their takeover, highlighting the stadium’s importance in attracting other investors.

Everton’s new 52,888-seater stadium, which could cost more than £750 million, is anticipated to be finished by late 2024.

The Merseysiders are set to move to the new stadium at the start of the 2025-26 season.

In September, 777 Partners agreed to buy Farhad Moshiri’s 94.1% ownership in Everton for over £500 million. However, the Premier League, Financial Conduct Authority, and Football Association have yet to approve the transaction.

Wyness claimed that another organization might find the potential cash from the new stadium appealing.

He stated on Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast: “I’m still hopeful there is another group out there, waiting for the right moment.”

“The Premier League would be in serious difficulty if they approved 777 Partners and there was a problem – maybe as soon as six months later.

“I believe passing the smell test for 777 will be extremely difficult right now, as the Premier League appears to be doing its due diligence.

“There is a great new stadium on the horizon, which will be spectacular, as well as the chance to enhance revenue by £50-60 million each year.

“Those are the kinds of things we have to look forward to, but there must be greater stability in the meanwhile.

“It’s funny how the stadium has been the cause of these problems, but could well be the saviour of the club in the end.”
