4 Rangers striker summer transfer options with targets revisited and freebies considered.
Philippe Clement will have cash to spend, but the manager has been prudent since he arrived.
Rangers had a relatively smooth January transfer window.
The club’s success may be attributed to the signings of Fabio Silva on loan, Oscar Cortes with an option in the summer, and Mohamed Diomande, who cost £4.5 million. Nils Koppen’s first window appeared to be a success, with fans satisfied with the results and a strengthened squad.
If you checked social media on February 2, you might have noticed one or two minor complaints about the lack of another striking option, with Abdallah Sima and Danilo both sidelined for the foreseeable future. There was no new left-back, but they did keep Ridvan Yilmaz, who joined Ibrox alongside Borna Barisic, and Jefte will arrive in the summer.
Football Scotland looked at strikers who could be available in July, with probable loans or free moves, despite the fact that they do have some funds to spend, as CFO James Taylor mentioned this afternoon.
Michy Batshuayi
The 30-year-old emerged as a realistic alternative for the Rangers during the January transfer window, although on a short-term basis. The Fenerbahce attacker was unable to secure a new contract in Turkey, and he will be seeking for a new club in the summer, where Clement and his staff could move again for a longer-term contract if they can put together an appealing pitch.
Oli McBurnie
He’s a die-hard Gers fan who is out of contract in the summer. The Scotland international is a master of scoring in the English Championship with Sheffield United, however his Premier League record isn’t quite as impressive, and you’d have to believe the level would suit him more in Scotland’s Premiership. Has been a large money signing at previous clubs, but if Gers can get the 27-year-old for free, they may sell him in a year for a few million.
Muniz, 22, has been on the bench for Fulham in the Premier League all season, with Raul Jimenez keeping him there under Marco Silva. This season, he’s made 14 appearances across all competitions, with the great majority of those coming from the bench. He could be available for loan ahead of next season after spells at Middlesbrough and Fulham, where he won the Championship. He provides a target inside the Gers box, which they do not normally have.
Lawrence Shankland
Sorry to go through this again, Hearts fans.
The striker has long been a goal for his boyhood club, and while they did not make an offer in January, they may be more willing to move for him in the summer, when his current contract expires in just 12 months. If he continues to turn down offers, Steven Naismith may be forced to make a choice in order to recoup as much money as possible – perhaps opening the door for the Ibrox club.
