Philippe Clement remarks on Oscar Cortes’ performances in Rangers training
Rangers manager Philippe Clement hailed winger Oscar Cortes following his good performance against Ayr United on Saturday evening.
Rangers advanced in the Scottish Cup after defeating Scott Brown’s Ayr United at Ibrox.
With goals from Borna Barisic and Fabio Silva, the Gers advanced to the quarterfinals.
Philippe Clement will not get ahead of himself, but he will undoubtedly want to win another trophy having winning the Scottish League Cup earlier this season.
This could have been a much more emphatic victory on the scoreboard, but the performance was superb, particularly from newcomer Oscar Cortes.
Philippe Clement praised Rangers talent. Oscar Cortes, a Colombian winger who joined Rangers on loan from Lens before the transfer deadline, is hoping to regain his form at Ibrox.
Cortes only joined Lens in the summer after impressing in Colombia, but he was not given much of an opportunity in France.
Cortes, who is now aiming for a permanent move to Glasgow, made a strong impression on Saturday.
Cortes hit the post with just over a minute on the clock and had a fizzing strike saved only five minutes later.
The 20-year-old then set up Barisic for the opening goal and continued to terrorise the Ayr defence, sending a left-footed shot wide of the post before halftime.
Cortes made a good maiden start following two substitute outings, and Rangers manager Clement appears pleased with what he’s seen.
Clement lauded Cortes’ performances on and off the field in an interview with BBC Sport following Saturday’s victory.
Clement also reports that the Rangers recruitment staff has had Cortes on their radar for some time, feeling he would be a good match at Ibrox.
“We see why we bring him,” said Clement. “He is somebody who can help the team and who feels good in his way of football. He had six months in Lens, where they had a different style and he didn’t play many minutes – or almost nothing – but it’s good that our recruitment knew him already for a long time and they said he would fit the team and the squad and he could give something that we need for the next couple of months.”
