Always frustrating’: Jordan Pickford gives verdict on controversial Everton v Man City moment

Going into yesterday’s game, it was widely assumed that Everton would fail to win.

After all, the Toffees had only won once in their previous 11 matches across all competitions, while the hosts had won nine in a row.

Having now reached 10, the method of triumph was significantly more determined than anticipated.

Sean Dyche’s team restrained the Cityzens until they scored with a powerful right-footed attempt, their first shot on goal of the game.

However, there has been an element of frustration emerge following that opener, which left James Tarkowski lambasting the officials post-match.

Jordan Pickford is the latest to echo this sentiment…

What Jordan Pickford said about the referee

This latest ruling is unlikely to alleviate the perception that unfairness has been lurking around every corner this campaign.

Everton is the only Premier League team that has not received a single penalty this season, which is further exacerbated by off-pitch deduction fights between the division and the club.

In a post-match interview with Everton’s official site, Pickford expressed frustration at the disputed corner that resulted in the opening goal.

I think the linesman, I don’t know who called it linesman or referee but, they’ve got to help each other better there and on another day he doesn’t score that, what may happen?

‘We know City would keep fighting until the end, they’ll keep probing if it was 0-0, and we’ll keep defending well.

But it wasn’t to be today and we’ve just got to regroup, refocus, learn from the negatives and keep the positives going.’

How well has Jordan Pickford played for Everton this season?

Despite the fact that the former Sunderland man conceded on two of the three shots on target he faced, his backline put on another fantastic performance.

And few can complain about their goalkeeper’s overall performances, with Pickford being regarded as one of, if not the most essential player at Everton.

His recent performances in the last two relegation battles support that claim, and this season he finally has the data to back up his praise.

The division’s top goalkeeper has the most clean sheets (8) and averages 2.9 saves per game, contributing to his 7.15 league average rating (Sofascore).

Few can deny his enormous talent and unwavering resolve, and while this injustice is just the latest in a long series, the true test will come next Monday when they visit relegation rivals Crystal Palace.

That is where they can give the referees no excuse to rule against them. They simply need to blow the Eagles away.
