Mock Draft: Cowboys Get Protection for Dak?

The Dallas Cowboys need to address a lot of things this offseason, but how will they begin their class of players selected in the 2024 NFL Draft? Graham Barton, an offensive lineman for Duke, was selected in the latest mock draft by Sports Illustrated.

Dallas needs assistance at several different offensive line positions, and possible free agent departures might make those needs even more urgent, according to SI. “Barton has done most of his work at tackle for the Blue Devils, but his ability to play all five positions in the offensive trenches would make him an ideal pick for the Cowboys.” In recent years, the Dallas front office has chosen players like Micah Parsons and Tyler Smith who are versatile at many positions early in the draft.

For the Cowboys, adding a man who can play on the interior offensive line would be a wise move, especially with Zack Martin starting his 34th season and Tyler Biadasz approaching free agency. Tyron Smith is also turning 34, and it’s possible that he’s past his prime playing for the Cowboys. Although Barton wouldn’t absolutely need to play right away, he might be prepared to play whenever needed.

The team will need to draft well at the offensive line given their need to spend money elsewhere, including on a new contract extension for Dak Prescott. As a result, there’s a good likelihood the team will open the draft in the trenches on draft day.
