Following the Celtics’ split, supports Willie Collum’s return to the Rangers as a referee.
Barry Ferguson maintains that despite the club’s desire for him to stop officiating their games, he has no problem with Willie Collum taking command of Rangers vs. Ayr United.
The Ibrox team, hurt by the aftermath of their match against Celtic at Parkhead on December 30, petitioned the Scottish FA to ban Collum from playing in their games. When an offside in the build-up was later shown in the second half, Collum was the man in charge of video assistant refereeing the match, and the Gers were not given a penalty for a handball by Alistair Johnston. The SFA and Rangers both made tit-for-tat remarks regarding transparency in response to it, and a meeting was held to play the audio from the tech truck.
Speaking on GO Radio, Ferguson expressed his agreement with Philippe Clement’s assessment this week on the incident’s resolution, and he expressed his satisfaction with Collum playing the role of the guy in the middle when Scott Brown’s Honest Men visit town. “I don’t see any issues with Willie Collum overseeing the game tomorrow,” he declared. “Look, everybody make errors, but the manager was 100% correct in what she said.
I don’t believe that referees ever experience this; they are impartial. They set out and attempt to accomplish it as best they can.Is the quality of the refereeing up here good? No, I do not believe so. However, I don’t believe they go out there deliberately try and create mistakes or anything like that. Since they are simply human, who would choose to officiate games?
