Celtic expert drops brutal Lawwell verdict after ‘crazy’ development – ‘Fans won’t forgive’
Celtic fans “won’t forgive” chairman Peter Lawwell if they don’t win the title this season following the January debacle.Celtic fans were completely justified in criticizing the board during their match versus Aberdeen.
In an exclusive interview with Football Insider, a former Celtic and West Ham striker criticized Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell for supervising a disappointing January transfer window and lacking football knowledge.
On Saturday (3 February), supporters were seen brandishing anti-board placards and singing anti-board chants at their 1-1 draw with the Dons at Pittodrie.
A substantial segment of the Celtic fanbase was disgruntled with the club’s winter business and angered at their seeming lack of ambition in the face of rivals Rangers’ continuous development under Philippe Clement.
McAvennie stated that fans “won’t forgive” the board or manager Brendan Rodgers if the Hoops do not win the title this season, and pushed the club to sign first-team players.
“I don’t think there’s anyone who would say fans aren’t justified in being angry,” he told Football Insider.
“Rangers have spent more than us; that’s insane, and I don’t understand it.
“Lawwell, what has he accomplished in football?”
“He is not bringing in players that will benefit the team.
“It’s great to bring in future prospects and young players, but we also need good players right now.
“The fans will not forgive the board or the manager if the team does not win the league this season.
“They’ve come out and blown their trumpet, claiming they have all this money to spend, but this irritates the supporters because they haven’t spent anything.
They have spent money on players, but none of them can immediately join the team.
“It looks like we’re running out of ideas.”
