Neil Warnock claims that Rangers and Celtic are “not miles ahead” of Aberdeen.

Neil Warnock, the new Dons manager, feels that way.

Earlier this week, the seasoned Englishman succeeded Barry Robson at Pittodrie as he adjusted to Scottish football in his debut encounter at Ibrox on Tuesday night.

After losing by a slim margin of 2-1, Philippe Clement‘s team tied Celtic for the lead in the Premiership for a full day on points.

The Light Blues do, however, still have a game in hand. Brendan Rodgers’ team then defeated Hibernian to open up a three-point lead. Last weekend, Aberdeen, under interim manager Peter Leven, managed a 1-1 draw on their own field against Celtic.

Now is the time to focus on the Scottish Cup, as this weekend marks the fifth round. Pittodrie welcomes Bonnyrigg Rose as guests on Saturday, and Warnock hopes to compete all the way to the top.
The 75-year-old said to the media, “Yeah, I would like to win it myself. “Really, talking about it is fine.

“We’ve watched us play games that we could win against Celtic and Rangers.

“Are you with me when I say that they were miles ahead of us a few years ago? Now, I fail to see that.

“They’re better than us, but you know, I think with the right attitude and tactical way, you can have a go at them.”

David Martindale, the manager of Livingston, meanwhile, stressed that his midweek joke about being “gutted” that Derek Adams had left relegation rivals Ross County was not meant to be taken personally.

Martindale clarified that his goal was to prolong the “unhappy environment” at the Dingwall club.

At the foot of the unassailable Premiership, the Lions lie six points behind the Staggies in eleventh place.
