Paul Merson predicts result of Everton showdown v Manchester City

Everton will extend their winless streak in all competitions to four games when they face Manchester City on Saturday, February 10, according to Paul Merson.

The Sky Sports analyst predicts a 2-0 victory for Pep Guardiola’s City over the Toffees, citing City’s “world-class” squad depth as the difference from their last 2-2 tie with Tottenham Hotspur at the Etihad Stadium.

City have won nine consecutive games in all competitions and will return to the top of the Premier League with a victory over Sean Dyche’s side, and Merson is confident Everton will leave empty-handed.

On Thursday (8 February), he wrote for Sportskeeda: “Everton will make it hard for teams despite their position in the league

table, but I can’t see anything other than a Manchester City win and that will take them to the top of the Premier League standings.”

“They’ve won nine consecutive games in all competitions and have begun to do what they do best in the second half of the season: win games and go on runs.

“They now have two world-class players returning in their squad in Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland, which is a huge benefit. The likes of Jack Grealish and John Stones didn’t even get off the bench against Brentford, which shows what a wonderful team

Manchester City ominous in Everton relegation battle

This was always going to be a tough season for Everton, but the last few weeks have increased the tension at Goodison Park as Dyche’s side is once again back in the Premier League dropzone.

The Toffees’ early point deduction has evaporated, making relegation a serious possibility, especially with Luton Town’s recent good improvement.

Dyche’s team will make it difficult for City, as Merson predicted, but Guardiola’s team does not have the same weaknesses as Tottenham and is much more likely to neutralize the Toffees’ danger from set-pieces.

Everton will hope to defy the odds and take all three points at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, but there won’t be many fans flying to Manchester with high hopes for Dyche’s team.
