Barry Ferguson has commended the Rangers board for selecting Steven Davis as temporary manager, but the former Gers player has acknowledged that a mistake now could have “huge ramifications.”

The Light Blues are now firmly in the running for the Premiership title, and although Ferguson acknowledges that he has been impressed by the Belgian, he believes it will come down to the wire and that any defeat could have a significant impact on the outcome. Since Philippe Clement arrived at Ibrox, the team has only lost once in the league, narrowing the gap to Celtic at the top of the table. However, the Gers took their time to appoint the Belgian, with Davis filling in temporarily.

In a piece published on Friday, February 9th, in the Daily Record, he stated: “I believe the Ibrox board deserves credit.” They could have hurried to an appointment and made an even worse mistake by offering Beale the job.

However, by appointing Steven Davis and Alex Rae as substitutes, they bought themselves a little extra time this time, and they utilized the October international to finish their research on Philippe Clement. And it’s working out so far.

The Rangers are definitely back in the race for the championship, but in actuality, the club will be under increasing mental strain. From now on, making a mistake could have severe consequences, and you never know how it would impact the team’s recently gained self-assurance.

Nonetheless, the Ibrox board’s selection of Clement has completely changed the club, and they should be commended for delaying their Davis call rather than hastily selecting someone like John Eustace.

Though there is still a lot of football to be played this season before anyone lifts the Premiership trophy, nothing in the league has been determined as of yet.Rangers might be in the lead, but everything can change in an instant.

With any luck, the Light Blues can avoid any last-minute mistakes and maintain their composure longer than Celtic. At the end of the season, if they can, their names and Clement’s names will be on the trophy.
