Phil Jagielka ‘100%’ worried for Everton ahead of points deduction appeal verdict.
Phil Jagielka says it’s a “problem” because Everton must now rely on other results to stay in the Premier League.
The Toffees, who were punished 10 points earlier in the season and are currently appealing, are now in the bottom three.
Luton Town are one point ahead and have a game in hand, while bottom two Sheffield United and Burnley are almost certainly relegated.
According to the Liverpool Echo [8 February], Sky Sports pundit Jagielka stated, “You’d be a brave man to call who will go down with them.”
“I am quite worried about Everton this season. I was less concerned before the points deduction, of course.
“But then that happens, and there’s clearly talk of another one. You look at every game now, not just Everton’s.
“When you find yourself examining who other teams are up against and how they’re doing, there’s a problem.
“It means one of two things; you’re looking because you’re trying to win something and you’re hoping your rivals have dropped points, or it’s the other way, and things are going south.”
Everton embroiled in Premier League relegation battle
Everton have known for a time that they are in a relegation battle that will almost probably come down to the wire.
That is, of course, unless they are successful in their points appeal, with a decision from last week’s hearing expected soon.
Even if only six points are added back to the board, they will still be unable to breathe easily. A second PSR punishment is pending as well.
Full credit to Luton Town for pushing Everton into the bottom three with a run of form that no one saw coming.
All the Toffees can do is keep scoring points on the field, with last week’s draw against Tottenham a positive outcome.
However, for some time now, the outcomes have not been satisfactory. A trip to Manchester City this weekend, therefore, is not ideal.
However, there are some more winnable matchups ahead, so ideally this will provide an opportunity to gain some momentum.
Sean Dyche has already put together a winning streak this season, and there’s no reason why it can’t happen again.
