Rangers ‘maintain contact’ with highly-rated Brazilian transfer target after failed attempt to sign him

Rangers’maintain touch’ with highly rated Brazilian transfer target despite failed attempt to sign him.

Rangers had a successful January transfer window, adding Fabio Silva, Mohamed Diomande, and Oscar Cortes to enhance their lineup.

However, the Gers were unable to complete the transfer of highly regarded left defender Jefte from Brazilian club Fluminense.

Fabrizio Romano said less than a week ago that Rangers and Fluminense had reached an agreement on the young player’s

services. However, the only stumbling block in the transaction was APOEL Nicosia’s refusal to rescind the star’s loan deal, which was set to continue until the end of the season.

Gipedo said that the Cypriot giants requested £500,000 to cancel the temporary swap early, which the Brazilian side refused to

pay. It is also said that the 20-year-old tried to push a move by failing to show up for training.

The 20-year-old is set to stay in Cyprus until the conclusion of the season as he helps his team compete for the league

championship. Prior to the transfer saga, Jefte had been having a fantastic season with APOEL, demonstrating his potential with three goals and four assists in 19 league appearances.

Rangers are still looking to sign a left defender this summer due to the uncertainty surrounding the future of Borna Barisic,

whose contract is set to expire in the summer. Fellow left back Ridvan Yilmaz was widely linked with a move to Galatasaray in

January, and the Turkish giants could return to the table in the coming months.

According to Give Me Sport writer Dean Jones, Rangers have maintained touch with the defender’s management and want to renew their interest in him during the summer transfer window. According to the publication, the athlete hoped to transfer to Glasgow this summer and was devastated when the deal fell through.

Jones explained: “It’s always a good indicator when you know a player is causing a stir to force a move to your club. That’s a player you’ll want to support in the future.

“It doesn’t always work that way. Sometimes that opportunity is passed up. We’ve seen that in some high-profile cases previously. For example, we had Joao Palhinha at Fulham who was close to joining Bayern Munich at one point.

“He was at the training site, had all his shots and interviews done, and then nothing happened. That deal did not emerge in the subsequent transfer window.

“So, it doesn’t always happen that the player has another chance to make the move. However, the Rangers liked him and would most likely keep an eye on him in the future.

“I understand they will keep avenues open on conversations with the player to reassure him that he’s still in their thoughts.”
