Rangers: A newspaper reports on “major” news that Jack Butland has been informed at Ibrox.
According to The Mirror, Jack Butland has received a “major” boost from England because of his
Rangers performance, which puts him in a great position to qualify for Euro 2024.
The 30-year-old, who played for the Gers on a free contract last summer, has been outstanding since
earning the most recent of his nine caps five years ago.
With barely four months until the European Championship finals, Butland has returned to form just in
time.
An article written by Andy Newport for The Mirror‘s print edition [8 February, page 50] read: “Jack
Butland has been handed a major England boost after being told he is in the running for a dream Euros
recall.”
The article goes on to quote England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson as saying: “Jack is definitely
on the radar. There is no doubt about that.”
Jack Butland’s England Euro 2024 competition
Butland could join a fairly short list of Rangers players to have represented England while still active at
Ibrox.
Moving north of the border, the former Birmingham City goalkeeper most likely did not anticipate that
his possibilities of playing internationally would improve.
However, it just goes to show that any player, including Butland, can have their career revitalized by
moving to Scottish football.
Although Butland is more than capable of earning a spot in the squad, he won’t be able to unseat Jordan
Pickford as England’s first choice prior to the Euros.
Aaron Ramsdale is not playing regularly for Arsenal and Nick Pope is nursing a long-term injury, so
Butland has a serious shout for selection.
Supporters would be pleased if Butland’s hard work is rewarded come the end of the season, but
hopefully it does not put him in the shop window.
However, the Gers have already knocked back some interest in him in January, so hopefully the club
remain firm should any bids come in.
In other Rangers news, Gary Neville and Roy Keane disagreed in an Ibrox debate.
