“Penalty to Rangers” as Celtic remain silent about their own astounding performance
“Penalty to Rangers” as Celtic remain silent about their own astounding performance
Don Robertson was unable to get Rangers and Aberdeen back onto the field for a penalty that never
happened, despite the best efforts of Sky Sports and Chris Sutton.
Kris Boyd correctly put his fellow critics back in their place, but it’s obvious that Philippe Clement wants
to get as much potential as possible out of the team he inherited.
The magnifying glass never seems to be far from decisions that go for Rangers but you could see Sutton
squirming as Boyd brought up Celtic’s own penalty “good fortune” in recent weeks – good fortune that
puts any conspiracy to bed.
The focus of Rangers’ penalty needs to shift to Celtic right now.
To begin with, the Rangers have had more players sent off than any other team in the league, and it
appears that the officials are working to our advantage.
On the other hand, since Rangers gave up a penalty against Kilmarnock in December, there has been
little activity on that side of the city.
It makes sense when you consider their numbers.
They top the charts for penalties awarded – another two at Easter Road last night – and, guess what?
They are bottom for penalties conceded with none against all season too.
You have to go back 35 league games since a spot-kick was last given against Celtic.
As with the Connor Goldson incident, it would be easy for an official to interpret something that goes
against them. Some of the decisions this season in the SPFL have been wild. It just seems like none of
them have gone against Celtic, so they must be due one. Someone has to call the SFA, UEFA, or FIFA
immediately. It’s likely that there have only been a few 50/50 calls in that time, but then again, I don’t
record all of their penalty incidents and post them on social media.
