A lot of Antonio Colak’s career has been characterized as “feast or famine,” with him frequently leaving his suitcase behind and hopping into airplane seats.

While playing for Kaiserslautern and Nurnberg in Germany, he had trouble scoring goals, but with Rijeka in Croatia, he was prolific. Subsequently, he had a terrible time at PAOK, an incredible time at Malmo, and a season at Rangers where his lack of presence outside the penalty box undermined his amazing goal total of eighteen goals. Mick Beale’s need for a more versatile center-forward set the stage for his early exit.

However, if Antonio Colak continues to feast on Scottish Premiership defenses, then the well-traveled Croatian is experiencing a period of starvation in his new Italian home. From feast to famine: Former Rangers ace struggling in Italy After a bright start at Parma, where he scored three goals in Serie B by early October, including a “beautiful” finish against Catanzaro, that bright start feels a bit of a false dawn. His most recent goal came in a 3-2 loss to Venezia, four months ago. Colak hasn’t started a league game since being substituted injured against Spezia in December, and he has only appeared twice in the last eight league games. To be honest, Colak is a bit of a throwback center-forward in a time when strikers are supposed to take the lead and make contributions both inside and outside of the ball. His one-dimensional skill set undoubtedly contributed to his departure from Rangers, where Beale replaced him with the hard-pressing Danilo and the more mobile Cyriel Dessers. It appears that Colak is now experiencing a similar problem at Parma, as rumors of a January transfer to Spain surfaced.

“It was a game that didn’t suit him well,” Parma head coach Fabio Pecchia remarked following the Spezia match. Colak was having trouble getting on the field and was consequently mainly ineffectual prior to his halftime exit.

He wasn’t in the best of situations to influence the game while we were far from the goal.

In four months, one objective
Colak currently has three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions. In recent games, Pecchia has even acknowledged using substitute players while keeping Colak on the sidelines.

Given Colak’s inconsistent record, it wouldn’t be shocking if his next team, whatever they may be, manages to get 20 goals out of a guy who consistently swings between being an inspiration and being a liability.
