Rangers make decision over “important” Ibrox player who Clement likes.

The Gers have reached their decision.

Rangers are three points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic, but with a game in hand, they have the opportunity to

tighten the title race and complete an ultimate comeback in their pursuit of silverware. And, while the action on the ground

unfolds, a significant decision is said to have been made in the Ibrox boardroom.

Rangers contract news

Although this season could be a huge success, Philippe Clement is yet to have a complete season in charge, making next season

a crucial time for the Gers. The Belgian must, however, keep his squad’s base intact if he is to consistently beat Celtic to the Scottish title in the coming years.

Those at Ibrox witnessed how Michael Beale suffered during his time after the departures of Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, and they’ll be hoping to spare Clement the same fate.

Of course, if the January transfer window is anything to go by, the former AS Monaco manager will undoubtedly be supported

by the Gers, who signed Fabio Silva, Oscar Cortes, and Mohamed Diomande last month. They have now made an equally significant decision off the pitch.

According to Wayne Veysey of Football Insider, Rangers have offered John Lundstram a new contract.

As things stand, the midfielder is expected to leave the club as a free agent this summer, giving the Gers a frustrating blow.

Lundstram is said to want to stay, but with negotiations still ongoing, it’s unclear whether that will be the case come May.

Clement admires the former Sheffield United midfielder, stating in December: “He is important in many ways.”

He never conceals. He always wants the ball. He knows the tactical study we want to undertake with each game, and he alters it to try to identify spaces.”

Regarding Lundstram’s contract, the Rangers manager stated, “Yes, of course I am thinking about it.”

That is something we can debate in the next weeks and months. I’ve already discussed it with him; he knows how I feel, and I know how he feels, but that’s for the coming weeks and months.

“Important” Lundstram brings experience to young Rangers team

If you want to win titles, a great combination of experience and youthful fearlessness is the best way to begin.

That is a balance that Clement has begun to discover since arriving at Ibrox, and one that Lunstram is essential to. The 29-year-

old, alongside Ryan Jack, is typically behind a young attacking trio, with Rabbi Matondo, Ross McCausland, and Fabio Silva all under the age of 24.

Replacing that experience would likely be more difficult than finding new offensive options, especially if the Gers lose Lunstram

on a free transfer this summer. Even if the midfielder has the opportunity to retire as a Scottish Premiership winner, staying

with Rangers and Clement could be the key to continued success as his career progresses.
