After being fired by Eredivisie team AZ Alkmaar, Pascal Jansen was able to secure a position with the Rangers, but he may now end up at Greek powerhouse Olympiakos.
At the risk of sounding a little optimistic, we would advise Pascal Jansen not to get too comfortable in the Olympiakos bench should he take over for Carlos Carvalhal at the Karaiskakis Stadium.
President Trigger Happy Comparatively speaking, former Swansea coach Carvalhal would appear composed and composed next to Evangelos Marinakis, the club’s thirteenth permanent manager in the previous ten years.
Before Philippe Clement’s brilliant hiring in the autumn, Rangers were considering Janssen, who might soon wear number 14. According to the Greek newspaper Sportal, Jansen met with Marinakis after being fired by AZ Alkmaar and witnessed Olympiakos’ youth team play Inter Milan in the UEFA Youth League this week.
It’s interesting to note that Barak Bakhar, another tactician who was once connected to Ibrox, is reportedly the Dutchman’s main contender for one of the most desirable positions in European football.
Rangers examined Pascal Jansen prior to the Eredivisie’s departure.
AZ Alkmaar was winning the Eredivisie a few months ago under Jansen. His reputation swiftly declined, though, following a lacklustre domestic campaign and an early departure from Europe, with Arizona’s ascent to the Europa Conference League semifinals the previous season met with tremendous disappointment.
“I have been in the football world long enough to know that this can be a part of it,” Jansen said after his abrupt exit at the beginning of the season on the AZ website. Undoubtedly, it is disheartening and unfortunate.
“I am proud of my time at the club and the opportunity I have been given here, even in spite of this disappointment. Above all, I want to express my gratitude to my staff and players for their enjoyable and productive partnership. I’m hoping for the best for the group and its members going forward.
In discussions around Olympiakos’ relocation
If Jansen accepts the Olympiakos position, he will follow in the footsteps of notable figures like Carlos Corberan, Leonardo Jardim, Marco Silva, and Ernesto Valverde—and perhaps fare better than any of them did under Marinakis.
Conversely, since they placed their trust in Clement, the Rangers have only gotten stronger. With a 2-1 victory over Neil Warnock’s Aberdeen on Tuesday, Rangers tied Old Firm rivals Celtic at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings, if only for a day.
