Rangers controversy v Aberdeen leads to Sky Sports argument at Ibrox
Kris Boyd and Chris Sutton got into a heated argument live on Sky Sports after footage emerged of Conor Goldson’s potential handball as Rangers defeated Aberdeen 2-1 on Tuesday (6 February).
With goals from Rabbi Matondo and Todd Cantwell, Rangers defeated the Dons 2-1 in a hard-fought match, tying Celtic for first place in the Scottish Premiership.
Following Dujon Sterling’s dismissal, there was controversy surrounding the game, with Don Robertson standing by his on-field decision following a VAR review.
When Goldson appeared to fall on the ball after it struck his arm under pressure from an opponent in the second half, Aberdeen would have believed they had a penalty, which sparked discussion in the Sky Sports Studio on February 6.

Aberdeen will feel hard done by at Ibrox
Aberdeen would be displeased that VAR wasn’t used to review the Goldson incidents, regardless of whether Goldson’s handball was a penalty or not.
Supporters will contend that the first one was given in other matches, and there’s an argument to be made that Goldson’s arm was in an unusual position.
Given that Goldson was on the ground and unable to control the ball beneath his arm, the second occurrence that occurred shortly after is rather clear-cut.
That is the kind of fortune and luck you need on your side, no matter which side you’re on, when you’re vying for the Scottish Premiership title, and Philippe Clement and his team delightedly experienced that on Tuesday night.
Undoubtedly, the Gers’ performance wasn’t at its peak, but in the middle of a taxing title fight, victories are crucial regardless of performance.
Bravo to Clement’s team for making sure they maintained pressure on their Old Firm opponents.
