Rangers submit appeal after Dujon Sterling red card against Aberdeen

In their 2-1 victory over Aberdeen, Rangers has filed an appeal against the red card given to Dujon Sterling.

Referee Don Robertson dismissed Sterling from the game at Ibrox for challenging Jack Mackenzie late in the second half.

Although the VAR officials encouraged Robertson to reconsider his call, the referee upheld his initial ruling of serious foul play and ejected Sterling after viewing replays on the pitchside monitor.

The player will be allowed to play this weekend in the Scottish Cup against Ayr United if Rangers win the appeal before an independent panel summoned by the SFA on Thursday.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement had stated, during his post-game speech on Tuesday, that while he first thought the red card was harsh, he would first confer with others before deciding whether to file an appeal.

As a club, we have to make a decision on it, according to Clement. “I never decide on these things by myself. For me, it was a difficult choice. Dujon tripped and collided with the opponent’s toes.

“Up until now, I haven’t seen many red cards that allow you to touch the opponent’s toes. I cannot recall a single moment if I were to look back.
