Rangers: John Lundstram new contract on the cards at Ibrox as Sky pundit drops verdict
There could be new Ibrox contract talks incoming for John Lundstram at Rangers, according to pundit Kenny Miller.
During Tuesday’s (6 February) Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Aberdeen, the Sky Sports analyst made the statement.
Lundstram, who made 35 appearances this season in all competitions, started the match under the lights at Ibrox.
“I think he’s the most important player since Clement joined the team,” Miller stated in real time on Sky Sports Football on February 6 at 8:22 p.m. Since the Belgian took over, he has practically always been there, and his performance has been incredibly reliable.
“Being unsigned at the end of the season, it wouldn’t surprise me if new contract negotiations arose. I believe Clement would want to have him accessible to him for the upcoming season.
Rangers to open Lundstram talks?
The Rangers just cannot afford another summer like the one they had last year, when players like Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos left Ibrox when their contracts expired. The Scottish Premiership’s biggest teams not only lost two important players, but—more concerning still—they did so at no cost.
If a more suitable framework had been established, they might have either retained them at Ibrox or sold them for high prices prior to their contracts ending.
As Lundstram approaches the end of his contract with the team, he will undoubtedly be given some consideration in the near future.
Under Philippe Clement, the midfield ace has excelled this season, and his absence would be greatly felt by the
Belgian if this summer was his last.
Considering how successful he has been at Ibrox, both on and off the pitch, it’s possible that the man in the dugout has the Lundstram situation under control.
