Rangers confirm the departure of a midfield player as a second summer signing of Michael Beale goes on loan

Just six months after Ibrox’s arrival, a Brazilian move for an out-of-favor player

Midfielder Jose Cifuentes of Rangers, who was dropped from the first squad by Philippe Clement, has signed a 12-month loan with Cruzeiro in Brazil.

The 24-year-old, who cost £1 million to sign at Ibrox after arriving from Los Angeles FC, is leaving just six months after becoming the last player signed by Michael Beale before his firing in October.

The Ecuadorian international played in 20 games for Rangers this season, however he only made six starts. Since being replaced at the half of the team’s 3-2 Europa League victory over Real Betis on December 14, he has not appeared in any games.

Cruzeiro, which began its 2024 campaign in April and placed 14th in the Brazilian top division the previous season, has the option to purchase Cifuentes at the conclusion of the loan agreement.

He is the second summer addition to leave Rangers on loan, as attacker Sam Lammers, who cost £3.5 million to recruit from Atalanta, will spend the rest of the campaign at FC Utrecht.
