Manager gives update on signing £2m Rangers man with terms reportedly agreed.
Despite rumors of an impending move from Ibrox, Cruzeiro coach Nicolas Larcamon maintains that nothing is “finalized” surrounding a possible trade for Rangers midfielder Jose Cifuentes, who is valued at £2 million.
Even though the Scottish transfer window ended last week—Rangers completed a deal for Oscar Cortes before the clock struck eleven p.m.—Philippe Clement’s team could yet see changes.
Galatasaray is reportedly willing to pay £4 million for Ridvan Yilmaz, and they have until February 9th to reach an agreement. Brazilian clubs have an extended deadline; Cruzeiro’s own is not until early March.
Cruzeiro does not have the same constraints as Galatasaray, but it hasn’t stopped the Brazilian team from moving swiftly and forcefully to sign a player who hasn’t lived up to the hype since joining Rangers in the summer of 2023.
Rangers could send Jose Cifuentes to Cruzeiro.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Cifuentes has verbally agreed to join Cruzeiro on an initial loan deal, the Ecuadorian opting for the home comforts of South America rather than Caykur Rizespor of the Turkish Super Lig.

The £2 million-rated Cifuentes has made 20 appearances for Rangers across all competitions. And even though he came to Rangers with a reputation as a bit of a goal scorer—he scored goals with Los Angeles FC rather frequently in America—Cifuentes seemed doomed to leave the team without even recording a single goal.
Since receiving a red card in December’s 3-1 victory against Dundee, Cifuentes has not played in the Scottish Premiership. After signing Mohamed Diomande from Denmark’s Nordsjaelland, he falls even lower in Philippe Clement’s hierarchy.
‘There is interest’
“I’m not sure (whether he will stay or leave). When asked about Cifuentes’ future last week, Clement responded, “There is interest.”
“Cifu is likewise considering leaving Ibrox. We’ll see, though, as there isn’t an agreement yet. He has a great mindset, and we know we can rely on him even if he doesn’t take this step.
“We’ll see.”
