Lawyer reveals Celtic player was ‘on his way’ to another club before Brendan Rodgers’ side ‘decided to stop everything’
Gustaf Lagerbielke left Celtic Park in the winter market as Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers disregarded him. Although Lecce was eager to hire him, the arrangement ultimately fell through. Pantaleo Corvino, the technical director of Lecce, disclosed two days ago that the defender had submitted a request to join the Serie A team.
The Sweden international, for his part, has worked hard and was keen to get started with the Italian squad. “The boy had already left for Lecce with the permission of Celtic and the player, who would have taken a pay cut to play for Lecce,” said the statement. The Scottish squad ultimately decided to call it quits because one of their teammates had been injured. Maybe we can talk about it again in July.
The Sweden international, for his part, was keen on joining the Italian club and had made a firm effort. “The boy was already on his way to Lecce with the consent of Celtic and the approval of the player who would have reduced his salary in order to go and play for Lecce,” he said. “In the end, due to an injury to a teammate, the Scottish club decided to stop everything. Maybe we’ll talk about it again in July.”
Piraino has opened the possibility of the center back leaving Celtic in the upcoming window. The Swede, who came to play for Brendan Rodgers’ team from IF Elfsborg last summer, has made nine appearances so far this season, including two since the end of September. TMW states that Piraino is a lawyer and that Quan Sport Management was founded by him and Gerry Piccolillo. It is implied that they had something to do with the botched Celtic move.
